County Ski Weekend
The County ski weekend in March was a success, we had a few tense days wondering if there was going to be enough snow for ski-ing, we were in luck. The group stayed at the Guide Sheiling in Braemar so it was a quick trip up to the slopes on Saturday and Sunday.
By the end of the weekend the novices mastered the tows, were able to turn and could ski a variety of runs, the more experienced skiers had enough snow to give them a variety of runs. In true Guiding spirit the girls encouraged each other and the more experienced skiers kept an eye on how lessons were progressing.
The Guides also completed a trail round Braemar, not a big village but lots of history! Their cooking skills were fantastic and Saturday’s evening meal was gobbled up as everyone was hungry after a days exercise and fresh air. Saturday night also saw the girls in bed and asleep well before midnight – must be a first! The leaders also skied and Susan and Eileen bagged 2 munros, walking in winter conditions. Only 1 broken collarbone for the weekend – for a leader who should know better!
